Response To Love Center

The Response To Love Center is a community of believers dedicated to poverty-stricken individuals and families.  These individuals and families are empowered to take responsibility for their lives and encourage self-sufficiency through dignity and compassion.  The mission is to build up the Kingdom of God here on earth through touching peoples’ lives, helping people to grow, teaching people to love, and leading them, in turn, to respond with love to others.

Through the leadership of Sister Mary Johnice, and a host of volunteers, the building was transformed into a community outreach center, a center of love and acceptance for all who enter.  Their Thrift Shop clothes the naked; their Kitchen feeds the hungry; the Chapel comforts all in spiritual warmth; and the Food Pantry stretch families’ thin budgets.  On the first visit to the Center, each client if they wish, meets with a formally trained intake volunteer to assess their individual and/or family needs.  This assures that emergency needs are met immediately and secondary needs are provided for.  Assistance takes many forms and can be individualized to specific needs.  Time is taken to learn about clients, develop a plan of action for them, and provide direct service and/or referral to services that are most appropriate for them.  The on-site assistance currently consists of a food pantry, infant and formula program along with other infant needs, thrift shop, personal care program, two scheduled school supply distributions per school year, school/classrooms for gaining a general education diploma and the AMVETS (American Veterans) Career Training Center at the Response To Love Center.

Sister Johnice has a special place in her heart for all Military Veterans in need, and because of this, the AMVETS Career Training Center became part of the expansion of services at the Response to Love Center with its own dedicated space within the Center.  The Response to Love Center has offered Veterans’ services for years; however the Center will now be able to target the specific needs of Veterans as they transition from Military to Civilian life. Veterans who are struggling with PTSD, who are in need of transportation for medical services, who are homeless and who are hungry will now have a resource through this partnership of the AMVETS and the Response To Love Center.  The new center offers career assessment, employment search, training and coaching to help improve interviewing skills, effective resume writing and more.  This AMVETS Career Training Center is run specifically by trained Veterans and these services are available to all Veterans, Active Duty Service Members, National Guard Reserve Members, and their Spouses.
